My son said “This looks like a picture you’ll see as you walk in a temple. It’s peaceful, flowy and calming.” He didn’t know what I had called it but picked up on the vibe. As I’ve grown older, I’ve become more “flowy”; it’s taken 50 years.
Flowers have been a symbol of celebration for many years, and roses, especially red roses, represent love and affection. Here is my take on eternal love; love that’s been through ups and downs, peaks and troughs, and still gone strong.
This world is full of amazing life in all forms. We humans don’t know and often underestimate the value of other creatures for our planet and ultimately, our own life. We say humans are the apex predator, the most intelligent animal, I’m not so sure.
An abstracted representation of a calla lily and I am smitten by it. I don’t consider myself a floral painter, but I started a floral phase in my art in 2024 which has become a permanent phase 😊 I enjoy it so there will be more Petya-fied flowers in the future 😊
At my core, I am an abstract artist but I enjoy a challenge, although, everything I paint is tweaked through my own lens, as I play with colours and textures. I’ve never seen a purple horse in nature but he sure looks dreamy here.
The first artwork I started in 2026 and the circular shape came so easily that I couldn’t let myself change it, instead I highlighted it with gold leaf. There’s such drama on this canvas, the contrast, the texture – it will need a room with natural light so all can be seen.
An addition to the floral themed series and my first ever lily on canvas. Isn’t she is a beauty. The lilies in my garden should be making an appearance soon, and I am hopeful that they have multiplied. I know I only planted three bulbs three years ago, and last year I saw five beautiful flowers.
A poppy from my abstracted floral series – I’ve gone floral mad 😊 Why abstracted flowers – I have always said that nature is perfect and I have no interest in painting anything as it is in nature. What feels right is capturing the essence and showing it through my own emotional lens.
My appreciation for magnolia started after an art exhibition at the Hidcote manor gardens where they have exquisite magnolia trees. Since then, I notice them throughout Cheltenham. This artwork is the beginning on my abstracted floral series. The magnolia flower is not dominating, but it demands attention. It feels so good to let my eyes wander.
