My son said “This looks like a picture you’ll see as you walk in a temple. It’s peaceful, flowy and calming.” He didn’t know what I had called it but picked up on the vibe. As I’ve grown older, I’ve become more “flowy”; it’s taken 50 years.
This piece is about the power of dreams – the way scenes shift and change, the intense real-life-like emotions, the presence of people we feel without seeing any faces. The contrast really makes this canvas alive, as the eye registers dark and light shapes in the multiple paint layers. I love all my artworks, but some are harder to let…
I love how this one turned out, it speaks “sweetness” to me because of the colour combination and the warm spots of yellow. I find magnolia petals fascinating – strong, leathery, uniquely beautiful.
I adore the look and feel of trees. They don’t need anything that we provide yet give us life. If left in peace they will grow as tall and strong as they can, no ifs and buts. They say with maturity comes appreciation of solitude and one’s own company; I guess that makes me very mature 😊
