A stunning depiction of a magnolia branch with blooming flowers, and buds waiting to wake up. Textured elements suggest depth but the vibrant bloom draws the eye to the surface and keeps it gliding.
The first artwork I started in 2026 and the circular shape came so easily that I couldn’t let myself change it, instead I highlighted it with gold leaf. There’s such drama on this canvas, the contrast, the texture – it will need a room with natural light so all can be seen.
I love how this one turned out, it speaks “sweetness” to me because of the colour combination and the warm spots of yellow. I find magnolia petals fascinating – strong, leathery, uniquely beautiful.
Heavily textured magnolia depiction with the coloured flowers catching the eye straight away. As you continue exploring the canvas further details are revealed – the “embossed” background provides a 3d feel, the gold suggests sunshine, and the different shades of green further support the depth of the scene.
My appreciation for magnolia started after an art exhibition at the Hidcote manor gardens where they have exquisite magnolia trees. Since then, I notice them throughout Cheltenham. This artwork is the beginning on my abstracted floral series. The magnolia flower is not dominating, but it demands attention. It feels so good to let my eyes wander.
